Georgia GOP to choose congressional nominees, with candidates including man convicted in Jan. 6 riot
Georgia Republicans are settling two congressional nominations in runoffs Tuesday. Chuck Hand is a construction supervisor who was convicted for illegally demonstrating inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. He's running against former U.S. Education Department official Wayne Johnson in southwest Georgia's 2nd District. In the 3rd District, former Donald Trump aide Brian Jack is hoping to ride the ex-president's endorsement to a victory over former state Senate Majority Leader Mike Dugan. That's an open seat, because Republican Drew Ferguson is stepping down. Democrats will choose their candidate to face Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene in the November general election. Turnout is likely to be low Tuesday.
