Manhattan govt. changes office hours
MANHATTAN (KSNT) - Starting Monday, several Riley County government offices will be changing their office hours.
On June 17, the Riley County commissioners approved office hour changes that will be tested over a four-month timeframe. The trial period will be from July 1 to Nov. 1.
“This change will allow customers the convenience of accessing some services before their own workday, without any additional costs to the taxpayer," said County Treasurer Shilo Heger. "In addition, County offices can continue operating with lean staffing while allowing employees more flexibility."
A Riley County spokeswoman said most of the office hour changes will be for departments at the office building at 110 Courthouse Plaza. Hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday with office hours from 7:30 a.m. until noon on Fridays.
Full-time employees will continue to work 40-hour weeks, according to the announcement. The following offices will have changes to their working hours:
- Appraiser
- County Clerk and Elections
- Treasurer and Motor Vehicles
- Planning and Development/Environmental Health
- Register of Deeds
- Riley County K-State Extension, available through appointments on Friday afternoons.
The following departments will have unchanged office hours:
- County Attorney
- Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- County Counselor
- Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- District Court
- Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Health Department

- Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Transfer Station
- Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Emergency responders including Emergency Medical Services, Rural Fire District #1, and Emergency Management will continue to operate 24/7.
