1 hospitalized in Garden City home explosion
GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KSNW) – One person was hospitalized after a home exploded in Garden City on Saturday.
It happened just after 7 p.m. in the 800 block of West Fair Street.
Garden City firefighters were met with significant damage and a large debris field surrounding the home.
One person was treated and taken by Finney County EMS to an area hospital.
Black Hills Energy responded to shut off the gas supply in the affected area. The City of Garden City responded due to a downed power line. The City of Garden City Street Department also responded to remove debris.
Gertrude Walker Elementary School has minor damage. USD 457 Garden City Public Schools says summer school at that building has been canceled for Monday.
The Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office has been requested to assist in the investigation into the home explosion. An investigation is ongoing. No cause has been determined. Damage estimates are unknown at this time.
Fair Street has been closed between 9th Street and 11 Street, and 10th Street has been closed between Fair and Hamline Streets.
