FOX45 News: Maryland House GOP leader charged with DUI, driving with suspended license
Maryland House Minority Leader Jason Buckel, a Republican from Allegany County, was arrested Thursday on several charges, including DUI, court records show.
Buckel was stopped by Maryland State Police around 11:23 p.m. on Thursday heading east on U.S. Route 40 near Campground Road in Cumberland, police said.
The Maryland Republican is alleged to have been driving a 2021 Mercedes Benz C300 during the incident. It is not immediately clear if passengers were inside the vehicle during the traffic stop.
The state legislator received five citations, including:
- Driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
- Driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol.
- Driving a motor vehicle on a suspended license and privilege.
- Negligent driving vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.
- Failure to display registration card upon demand by a police officer.
Buckel is scheduled to appear in Allegany County District Court on July 24 for an initial hearing. It is not immediately clear if Buckel, an attorney himself, is being represented by an attorney.
