Boy, 16, killed by falling tree in freak accident just a day after final GCSE
A first picture has been released of a teenager who was killed by a falling tree while ‘earning extra pocket money’.
The 16-year-old Kamil Hubert tragically died after the freak incident in Carlton-in-Lindrick, Nottinghamshire, on Saturday.
The teen was reportedly trying to earn extra pocket money when he was hit by a falling tree, The Mirror reports citing a neighbour.
He was killed on Saturday just a day after finishing his GCSEs, a family member said on a GoFundMe campaign to help with the funeral costs.
Kamil was described as a ‘kind and loving boy’ by family member Aleksandra Ostapczuk who set up the fundraiser.
She said: ‘Kamil was a kind and loving boy who was taken away from us way too early.’
A resident alleged he was standing on the ground and holding a rope while workers cut branches with a chainsaw above him before a large chunk fell onto him, The Mirror reports.
A resident told the outlet: ‘It’s heartbreaking and really sad that a young boy trying to earn a few extra pennies can die in this way.
‘It is a very close knit community and everyone has been affected by this.’
A friend of his said: ‘You’ll be remembered for your cheeky smile and the jokes you’d crack can’t believe it was only yesterday I saw you on the way to work, forever 16.’
Flowers were left by mourners at the scene on Rotherham Baulk, where a police cordon remains in place as a probe continues.
Now three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Two men, aged 28 and 31, were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, while a 28-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, Nottinghamshire Police confirmed.
