Nurse leaders come together ahead of Providence strike

Ahead of the Providence nurses strike, representatives from the striking units are holding an event to share why they are striking and what they hope to achieve.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Ahead of the Providence nurses' strike, representatives from the striking units are holding an event to share why they are striking and what they hope to achieve.

On June 7, nurses at six Providence hospitals announced they had submitted a 10-day notice for a 3-day strike on June 18-20.

According to the Oregon Nurses Association, the strike comes after months of negotiations where, they say, little movement has been made. Safe staffing levels, affordable health care, increased paid time off, and market wages are all things the nurses are pushing for.

The leaders for several of the nursing units will be coming together at 10 a.m. Monday to share more about their reasons for going on strike.
