The 2024 Architecture and Design program at this year’s Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF), held in Toronto’s Distillery District, will focus on how Italy has influenced building design around the world for centuries and how that export is more evident than ever in present day.

The program includes the following:

Green Over Grey, July 3, 2024

Through this film, viewers are invited to discover the green architecture movement through the projects of Emilio Ambasz, a pioneer in the discussion on climate impact. This documentary delves into Ambasz’s four-decade journey, and showcases his impact on the connection between humanity and nature. Featuring exclusive interviews with figures such as Tadao Ando and Kengo Kuma, the documentary aims to highlight the importance of emotionally resonant architecture, capable of improving daily life and addressing urban and climate challenges.

Archiwine, July 12, 2024

Guests will enjoy a documentary that is part of a series on the impact of Italian architects on vineyard landscapes, coupled with a curated tasting experience. This evening celebrates visionary winery architecture, showcasing sustainability, tourism, and exceptional wine production.

Carlo Mollino: Architect and Storyteller, July 17, 2024

Carlo Mollino (1905-1974) was a legendary Italian architect and designer of the 20th century who synthesized elements of Expressionism, Futurism, Organicism, and Surrealism to create his unique approach to modern design.

Following the film screening, Michelangelo Sabatino, Betsy Williamson, and Shane Williamson will participate in a panel discussion on Carlo Mollino, moderated by Silvio Baldassarra. The event will be followed by a reception and a book signing by Sabatino.
