Austin to host emergency preparedness event on Tuesday

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Austin's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HSEM) is set to host an emergency preparedness pop-up at Spicewood Springs Branch Library on June 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Representatives from HSEM, city departments and partners in public safety will be on-site to provide tips, information, and supplies, according to a press release.

HSEM said the first 25 guests will receive an emergency supply kit, with a limit of one per household.

The press release said the emergency preparedness pop-up is an opportunity to learn more about getting prepared before emergencies and to stock up on free supplies.

The emergency supply kits come with items such as a backpack, lanterns, glow sticks, personal cooling supplies, battery powered chargers, NOAA weather radios, and more.
