Jeremy Strong is always gonna care about overlooked, the meek. That’s true when he’s in character as Kendall Roy, tweeting “We must overthrow the culture of corruption that silences women,” or in character as Dr. Stockmann in Enemy of the People, shouting about the climate. It’s even true when he’s in character as Jeremy Strong accepting a Tony for Best Leading Actor in a Play. “My brilliant cast, the design team and the whole production team that worked on this play,” he began his speech. But then he turned to the oft-overlooked. “I want to thank the ushers and the front of house staff, who see me walking in every day looking like I’ve just been run over by a truck, and see me walk out somehow looking even worse with bits of pretzels and Aquavit in my hair,” he laughed. The ushers and front-of-house staff for Enemy also have to organize audience members on and off-stage during a brief intermission where shots are passed around. Tonight, we toast to them!
