Monday Memories: When it came to wrestling fundamentals, Father knew best

College and high school wrestling champion Dan Marazon embraced fatherhood knowing plenty about takedowns, pins and other moves. That experience and discipline likely came in handy after he settled down to help raise 10 children. In this 1951 Blade archive photo, Dan Marzon shows sons Dave, left, and Dan, Jr., right how to approach each other in a match. Younger brother, Ken, is all eyes, intent on the play. All three boys later wrestled on the Waite High School Varsity team, comprising almost half of the team in 1963. Mr. Marazon also played football at both Waite High and Bowling Green University, and was honored for his athleticism, including being inducted to the City League Hall of Fame in 1993. He was a teacher and coach at Waite High School.
