MOORE CONTINUES HIS DOMINANCE, SMITH ADDS ANOTHER CAREER WCS WIN, CRANMORE CHANGES LUCK, AND HUMPHREY IS A MODIFIED WINNER

Orrville’s historic oval came to life once more on a beautiful June 15th. Sprints cars would not be present with the Speedweek finale taking place.The Glass House super stocks would be the first of the five scheduled divisions to hit the 3/8-mile oval.

Kyle Moore in the Fred Snyder owned 77 car would lead the field to the green with long time racer Jim Nicley on the outside pole. Moore would jump out to an early lead with Nicley never letting him get more than a 1.2 second lead. That would change on lap 5 as nicely would lose control and slide into the infield. He would gather the cra back up but lost a lot of room giving the 21D of Doug Drown the second-place spot and the 3B of Kyle McAfee the third spot. This would also help give Kyle Moore a huge lead of almost three seconds over second place. Drown would start to close the gap little by little. Lap 10 saw the first Bucks Auto Sales yellow flag as Tyler Nicley would loop his 72 car around. At the restart Drown would stay locked to the back of the 77 car as Braden Tucke in the 18 would take the 3rd spot. As Drown would get ready to get by the 77, Creston’s U4 of Paul McVicker would get upside down and catch fire. WCS safety teams would reach the car quickly to extinguish the flames and help McVicker out of the car. Paul would be okay. The field would go green with a two-lap dash. Moore would get out in front of Doug Drown. Drown would hang with the 77 and try everything he could to get around him but was unsuccessful as Moore would win his second straight Glass House Super Stock Feature. Drown second and Braden Tucke in third.As luck would have it

Moore and Drown would line up against each other in the Malcuit Tavern UMP Late Model feature event. In previous appearances one of them would suffer from mechanical failure. Both were hopeful for a successful 25 laps. Moore would lead the first of 25 circuits for the late models. Drown and Pennsylvania young gun Brock Pinkerous would stay right with the 1* of Moore. Very quickly the 4th place starter of Todd Brennen would throw his hat into the ring for the second spot as Moore would begin to drive away from the field. Calamity would strike in on lap 6 as a group of cars would spin in turn one to bring the events first yellow flag. The field would go back to green with Moore getting another impressive restart. Mansfield’s Dave Hornikel would begin to catch the leaders until a caution on lap 7 would stack everyone up. At the time it was noticed that JR Gentry had come from the 19th position al the way to 5th in less than 10 laps. After a few spins the field would finally get some green flag laps going. Dave Hornikle would take over second from the charging pair of Brennen and Drown. It had looked as if Kyle Moore had this race won until a strange yellow would come out. CoDee Schinder would lose the left side of his 14C machine. The door would get stuck under the 555 of Brock Pinkerous. After the door had been removed from the 555 the field would go green with a three-lap dash. Moore would get back in front once again with Hornikel right behind him. Moore would stick to his line to win his 5th straight WCS feature. Dave Hornikel would finish second and Doug Drown in third. In Summit Racing victory lane Moore was asked if the clean air had helped him “the clean air sure does help but this dominance is all Tye Twoarg Longhorn.”

The modlites made their first appearance of the 2024 season. 15-year-old Nash Gierke and veteran racer Teddy Williams would bring the 22 car field to the green. The initial start would be met with a Yellow so the field would line back up for a second attempt. With a clean restart Gierke would jump out to the early lead. With the 66 of Jason Noe in second. Another spin would bring out another yellow flag. The field would see a pair of green flag laps until the 66 of Noe would spin around while running in second. The field would line back up and try another attempt. The attempt was unsuccessful as Noe’s bad luck wasn’t over. His 66 car would go tumbling in turn 1. Noe was unhurt. The following restart would see the same result with Johnathon Brennen taking the tumble this time. Brennen would also be unhurt. After another turn one spin the field would see a successful restart. Gierke would continue his dominance with veteran Jimmy Smith in hot pursuit of the 56. As the field went into turn 4 Gierke would spin the car in turn 4. Back underway again Smith would be the leader with Cody Stillion in the 25 in close distance behind him. As the field would reach lap 6 Gierke would pick through the field one by one to try and catch the 280 of Smith. His break would come with another spin on lap 8. At the 3-lap mark Gierke had driven his 56 car back up to the third spot and had a head of speed to try and reach Smith. As the field reached turn 3 the 88 of Jake Isenhart would spin to bring out a yellow and set up a one lap dash. Jimmy Smith knew he had to hit his marks perfectly to keep Nash Gierke behind him. Smith would do just that Gierke would try everything he could, but Jimmy Smith would hold him off in spectacular fashion to win his 6th feature of 2024.Gierke second and Cody Stillion would take home third.

Loudonville’s Dustin Daugherty and the runner up at last years Summer Nationals race Brad Goff would be the two to lead the Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service UMP modifieds to the green. Goff would jump out the early lead with Daugherty in second. Loudonville’s Jimmy Humphrey would battle with the 23D of Daugherty for the second spot. Humphrey would get pass the 23D and start tracking down the 41 of Goff. Goff would stick on the top with Humphrey on the bottom. Goff would slide to the bottom on lap 7 to shut the door on Humphrey. With 9 to go Humphrey would make an attempt to get past Goff. Goff knew he was there and would try to throw another block on Humphrey going into turns three and four. Goff would spin right in front of Jimmy Humphrey. Humphrey would inherit the lead from Goff. At the restart Dustin Daugherty would do everything in his power to get by the fast number 60 of Humphrey. Another yellow would fly as CoDee Schinder in the Took Wiles owned 187 would spin around. Humphrey would continue his dominance on the restart. The last 5 laps would go caution free as Jimmy Humphrey would cruise to his first WCS win in a modified. Dustin Daugherty would finish 2nd and Brad Goff would work his way back up to third.

A pair of speedy Hondas would make up the front row of the Joyride Transport Mini Stock feature. Justin Cranmore would start on the pole with Doug Hensel to his outside. Problems would arise on the initial start as Wes Staley would have the right rear assembly fall apart. Cranmore would get the lead in the restart. Zach Hershey and Doug Hensel would battle for second. Hensel would finally shake off the 278 as points leader Anthony Collins would work on third and start tracking down the 18 of Hensel. Cranmore would open up a huge 2 second lead on Hensel. Justin Cranmore would continue to click off the laps all the way to the very end to shake off a lot of bad luck and pick up the Joyride Transport feature win. Doug Hensel in Second and Anthony Collins in third.

Orrville’s Historic Oval is back in action Next Saturday with the Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service Modified King Of The County as well as the 71 Investments King of the County for the Super Stocks. Pine Tree Towing Sprint Cars, Malcuits Tavern Late Models, and the Joyride Transport Mini Stocks all on hand as well.
