Report: Spurs and Man United are happy to pay release clause for PL star

Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze is thought to have a £60m release clause in his contract, but that’s a price both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United regard as being ‘cheap’, with both clubs prepared to pay the fee this summer.

Spurs and Man United both like Eberechi Eze

Tottenham have been linked fairly strongly with the England international since the season ended, with the Lilywhites expected to open discussions with Palace in the coming weeks (Football Transfers).

According to a previous report from TEAMtalk, Spurs would be willing to break their transfer record (currently £63m paid for Tanguy Ndombele) to sign Eze.

However, Tottenham are thought to be facing competition from Manchester United for Eze (Football Insider).

The problem for United, though, is that they are thought to only have a transfer fund of around £50m to play with this summer (The Daily Mail).

£60m fee not deterring Spurs from Eberechi Eze transfer

That’s not quite what the latest from Football Insider suggests, though, with a belief that the Red Devils and Tottenham would both be comfortable paying the £60m release clause Eze holds.

The clause places a £60m price tag on Eze, but add-ons would also be expected as part of any deal that Palace could accept for their star man.

The two interested parties apparently regard that fee as being “on the cheap” side and “are preparing to activate” Eze’s buyout clause.

Eze is thought to be “high on the list” for both teams and he “ticks a lot of boxes,” though it is believed Palace will do “everything they can” to prevent the sale of their prize asset.

Spurs Web Opinion

£60m isn’t all that bad in today’s market, for a player who can score and assist goals, still has room to improve, and he’s English and homegrown, to boot. We have to make this deal happen, and cannot let another Premier League side get in our way.
