I thought long and hard about my baby’s name, then realised I made a big mistake – she’ll be known as ‘sausage girl’

BABY names are completely subjective – what one person might love for their little one, another may strongly dislike.

But either way, it’s a big decision to make…after all, the child will go by that moniker for the rest of their lives.

So you can imagine one woman’s horror when she finally settled on a name for her baby daughter…only to realise she’d named her after a brand of tinned sausages.

Taking to Reddit after making the discovery, the woman in question explained how she and her husband had an “awful” time trying to decide on a moniker for their baby girl.

“We agreed on a name that we both loved, but I’m starting to think this just cannot be an option,” she continued.

“I love the song ‘Vienna’ and it’s very special to me.

“I also love ‘V’ names for girls.”

To her delight, the woman said she suggested the name to her husband and luckily, he “adored” it.

“We are both insanely picky so this was a huge win,” she said.

However, it wasn’t until a little while after that the mum-to-be made the discovery…

“But then I realised… Vienna sausages. WHY?!!!” she continued.

“I do not want my daughter to be associated with canned sausages!!”

Addressing social forum users and asking for their perspective, she questioned: “Do you think people will look past this, or would she always be the sausage girl?”

And the worried mum-to-be wasn’t short of answers, with many quick to take to the comments section, with very mixed reviews.

“I’m sorry, sausages are the first thing that some to mind – but on the other hand I think it’s very easy to look past,” admitted one person.

A second agreed: “I immediately thought of Vienna Sausages when I read the name BUT…I would never say that to someone if it’s their name.

But then I realised… Vienna sausages. WHY?!!! I do not want my daughter to be associated with canned sausages!

“If someone introduced themselves to me, I’d simply say ‘nice name and nice to meet you!'”

A third commented: “I personally do think of the sausages, but you should name your baby what you want, especially if it’s meaningful to you! Alternatives: Sienna, Vivian, Violet.”

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: “I immediately think of Vienna beef hotdogs. But I also grew up outside of Chicago.”

And a further added: “I thought of the sausage, then the city, then the pastries (viennoiseries).”

However, elsewhere, others told how it made them think of the capital city of Austria instead.

“Aren’t they called Vienna sausages after the city as well??

“I think no matter what the name is there will always be the possibility of a negative associate.”
