Princess Kate made her first public appearance today after months of recuperation and treatment for her shock cancer diagnosis.

The Princess of Wales put on a strong front while attending Trooping the Colour this year, stunning in a white dress.

After today’s pomp and circumstance, the question on everyone’s minds is: will we see Kate in public again soon? And if so, when?

Metro.co.uk spoke to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliam, who gave insight on today’s events and what the future could hold for the princess.

Photos of King Charles and Princess Kate standing side by side were ‘very, very deliberate and significant’, he said.

Mr Fitzwilliam added: ‘But despite the very moving statement released yesterday, the facts are we simply don’t know what will happen going forward.’

The princess could make an appearance for a day of Wimbledon, or perhaps for the upcoming state visit of the Emperor and Empress of Japan.

‘She’ll be handling it event by event, as King Charles is. And of course, if she’s tired, we may not know in advance. It’s such a difficult and terrifying disease,’ he explained.

Mr Fitzwilliam said: ‘What she’s doing is sharing insights into what it’s like and that will bring millions of sufferers around the world a feeling that they are not alone.

‘There are estimates that she has another three months to go. I don’t know whether that’s true or not, but I was listening to an expert on the BBC about it, we know there is more to go. We know she’s not out of the woods yet.’

The Princess of Wales’s daughter appeared to have taken a hand in assisting her mother today.

Mr Fitzwilliam said of this: ‘Her Children are getting older. And obviously it has been a burden for William and Catherine to try and convey what’s happening without causing too much concern.

‘I think that’s been a huge challenge, and I think that was obvious because of what she said in the video message. It’s hard to say exactly how she’ll plan her events.

‘But the children were all well behaved today – Louis was pretty restrained. We’ll see a certain amount of the children again. But they’re very protective and they rightly should be. They as children need protection.’

‘The emphasis was on a monarchy that has two of its most senior members seriously ill, and it’s a very difficult situation.

‘They’re handling it as best they can and also putting it on the right foot forward.
I think Queen Elizabeth would have been proud of the way that was handled.’

After today’s ceremony, Kate and her family were pictured smiling alongside Charles, Queen CamillaPrincess AnnePrince Edward, his wife Sophie and their daughter Louise.

And, of course, they were joined by Kate and William’s children, Prince GeorgePrincess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, to watch the RAF fly past.
