Kate Middleton has been seen for the first time this year as she attends Trooping the Colour.

She was photographed in the back of a car while being driven with Prince William to Buckingham Palace.

The Princess of Wales hasn’t been seen in public since Christmas Day of last year as she underwent planned abdominal surgery before then starting cancer treatment.

Yesterday she gave an update on her recovery and announced she will be attending Trooping the Colour, after having to miss the final rehearsals last week.

She stressed, however, that she’s in no way ‘out of the woods’ yet and today does not represent a formal return to public life.

‘I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal,’ the duchess said.

Kate, 42, is taking part in today’s procession by riding in a horse-drawn carriage through central London with her three children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.

She is now on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with the rest of the royal family.

The Princess of Wales has attended every Trooping the Colour ceremony since marrying Prince William in 2011, other than in 2020 and 2021 when the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

King Charles III is ‘delighted’ his daughter-in-law will be attending the event amid both of their ongoing cancer battles.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said yesterday: ‘His Majesty is delighted that The Princess is able to attend tomorrow’s events and is very much looking forward to all elements of the day.’
