Garden tip: Fun facts about gardeners
• More women than men are gardeners.
• People 35 to 44 years old do the most gardening in the United States.
• Millennials make up about 29% of the gardener demographic. (A millennial is someone born between 1981 to 1996.)
• The 2023 National Gardening Survey reports that the average household spends about $616 on lawn and gardening per year. The survey also says that there are more than 42,000 plant and flower businesses across the United States.
• About 86% of home gardeners grow tomatoes as the most common vegetable crop. Other common vegetables grown are lettuce, onions, carrots, pumpkins, cucumbers and beans.
• The average home garden will provide $600 of produce a year.
