'The Boys' Creator Explains Tilda Swinton's Peculiar Cameo, Reveals Other Actress They Wanted
The creator of The Boys explained Tilda Swinton cameo in the Prime Video series’ fourth season.
If you were unaware, the acclaimed actress voices an octopus named Ambrosius. She plays the love interest of The Deep (Chace Crawford).
Showrunner Eric Kripke opened up about casting Tilda in the peculiar role and revealed another equally surprising actress who was unavailable.

Speaking to Variety, Eric explained that no one on the team was familiar with Tilda before casting her.
“It was just that once we realized that Ambrosius was going to be a character this year, we in the writers’ room all said, ‘We need the classiest, Oscar-winningest, British actress we can get our hands on.’ And that’s a really short list,” he said.
He continued, noting that Tilda thought the idea was “hilarious” from the jump and signed right up.
“She was in Scotland, I think, at the time, but came into a recording booth there, and I was in a booth in L.A. giving her some direction. And just to hear the highest-caliber actor of her level reading the dumbest lines, it just makes me so happy. It’s really one of the best professional days of my life,” Eric recalled.
Who else could have played the part? He said that “Dame Judi Dench was unavailable,” implying that she turned it down.
Judi recently hinted that she was retiring from acting for a very specific reason.
