The Oklahoma Veterans Commission search continues for new executive director
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - The Oklahoma Veterans Commission is on the hunt for who will lead the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs.
Commission Chairman Robert Allen said he hopes the governing board will announce its selection June 20, according to The Lawton Constitution who first reported on this developing story.
According to the Lawton Constitution, the Commission received applications from 48 applicants. After meeting on Monday with additional applicants with its three finalists, no further information has been released.
The Commission began its search for a new director in April. Greg Slavonic has agreed to stay on while the board searches for his replacement. The nine-member board oversees veterans programs in the state. Currently, five seats are filled, according to the Lawton Constitution.
Previously in March 2023, the Commission was at the center of a showdown between then-Executive Director Joel Kintzel and Gov. Kevin Stitt. Kintzel was eventually fired.
The final selection is set to be announced June 20.
