6/14/2024: Strong storms for some this afternoon
The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:
A cold front approaching this morning has brought light, spotty showers to the region. This afternoon, it could spark a few strong to severe storms as it passes through.
Expect pockets of heavier rain to develop after lunchtime, with thunderstorms by mid-afternoon. Much of this activity will be focused from Albany to the south and east. North of the Capital District, you may be dry from much of the second half of the afternoon.
In the Mid-Hudson, Taconics, and Berkshires, there remains a "slight risk" for severe weather (2 out of 5 on the severe scale). Heavy rain could lead to localized flooding of poor drainage areas. Gusty, damaging winds and hail are possible, too, with the strongest of the storms.
Behind this stormy weather, we clear out spectacularly for Father's Day weekend. Expect cooler mornings and seasonable afternoons. Saturday could be just a touch breezy, but we'll call it a refreshing feel.
Temperatures then skyrocket for the following work week. Upper 80's Monday, then record or near-record levels of heat for Tuesday and beyond. Highs in the mid 90's will likely feel like 100 or so with the humidity accounted for. Take it easy, stay hydrated, and good luck beating the heat!
