Traffic accidents in Faryab, Laghman, and Takhar result in 25 casualties

The Ministry of Interior of the Taliban has released statistics showing that traffic incidents in Faryab, Laghman, and Takhar have resulted in 25 casualties and injuries.

on Thursday, June 13, the Ministry published a newsletter stating that a traffic accident in Maimana, the capital of Faryab province, resulted in 11 deaths and four injuries.

According to the newsletter, two other traffic accidents in the Gulfgan district of Takhar province and the city of Mehtarlam, the capital of Laghman province, resulted in one death and nine injuries.

This comes amid the dilapidated and poor condition of roads, recklessness of drivers, and lack of attention to traffic signs, which are often cited as reasons for the occurrence of traffic accidents in the country.

The recklessness of the driver significantly contributes to the frequency of traffic accidents. Drivers often engage in dangerous behaviours such as overtaking unsafe conditions, ignoring speed limits, and driving under the influence of substances. Such behaviours not only endanger the lives of the drivers but also put other road users at significant risk.

Fast driving is another major factor that leads to road accidents. Many drivers exceed the speed limits, especially on highways and less monitored roads.

A lack of attention to traffic rules further exacerbates the problem. Many drivers disregard basic traffic laws, such as yielding at intersections, using turn signals, and adhering to lane discipline. This negligence leads to confusion and unpredictable driving conditions, contributing to the high incidence of road accidents.

Furthermore, the weak enforcement of traffic regulations means that violators often go unpunished, encouraging a culture of negligence and disregard for road safety.
