WITH glimpses of warmer weather on the horizon, it won’t be long before many of us will be sitting around our garden patio having a refreshing drink with family and friends.

And perhaps the best part of all? She simply used a bargain buy from Ikea.

Tanya Hailey took to Facebook group Gardening On A Budget Official and told how she was inspired to purchase the ‘RUNNEN Floor decking’ from the Swedish retailer after spotting another member of the group recommending them.

Opting for the decking in shade ‘acacia,’ they cost her £25 per 0.81 m² and are simple to use – they just require laying down and clicking together.

The online product description reads: “Use this floor decking to quickly renew your balcony or terrace and section off an area for lounging and dining furniture.”

Tanya posted before and after photos of her stunning new patio area – and it’s little surprise others are rushing to follow in her savvy footsteps.

Alongside the snaps, she penned: “So happy with this Ikea decking – thank you to a post I saw on here from Lindsey Sugars, only took couple of hours.”

It wasn’t long before the post racked up several likes and comments from very impressed social media users.

“Looks great!!!” praised one person.

Another commended: “They look fab!”

A third noted: “They match your decking brilliantly! Good job!”

Meanwhile, another added: “I have the plastic version.. down three years and going strong..don’t get slippery or hot and very easy to clean.”

And one more chimed in: “Often thought of something like this for my patio area, but I wasn’t sure…it looks amazing and thank you for the share as I’m sure now.”

Tanya replied: “Aww that’s great! I’m so happy with it and it rained yesterday and wasn’t slippery!”

Fabulous previously told how Lindsey Sugars transformed her green patio in just 24 hours using Ikea’s cheap decking tiles and an old shed base.

How to repair broken patio slabs

THE paving specialists at Simply Paving told Fabulous how you can repair broken patio slabs, without the faff.

The experts advised: “If you have a loose paving slab, then it’s unlikely it can be lifted straight by hand. Instead, you will probably need a hammer and chisel to prise the paver free of your patio.

“To remove loose paving slabs without damaging your flagstones, carefully chip away at the mortar around the paving slab with the plugging chisel and rubber mallet until the slab comes completely loose.

“Then, slide the spade into the gap left by the mortar and prise the paver free of the patio.

“As you lift it up, place a short piece of timber underneath the spade to act as a lever, making it easier for you while protecting the slab underneath.

“When the paver starts to give, place the cylindrical wood underneath it and roll the slab out of the patio.”

Posting in the same Facebook group, she revealed how she transformed her tired-looking white shed base into the focal point of her garden using the ‘RUNNEN’ floor decking in dark grey, which costs £22/0.81 m².

“All done in a day!” she wrote.

“IKEA decking tiles on sale, furniture and old shed base I already had, just picked up some plants today.”

Lindsey told Fabulous: “I paid £271 for the decking after the family membership discount.

“The plants and pots and lights were £120 but I’ve still got some more lights to come as they didn’t have enough stock in store.

“The shed base was already there and the furniture I already had from previous years.”
