DIY lover Katrina Hogan-Clift begged for help after she attempted to redo her stairs – but now it looks like there are a ”load of grey cats” chilling on them.

Many advised the woman to get rid of the mini mats – which someone insisted looked like ‘grey cats’[/caption]

According to the mortified woman, they had spent ages desperately trying to give their staircase a fresh look – but despite the effort, she now hated the results.

Instead of covering the light grey wooden stairs with a full-length runner, the home interiors fan had opted to use smaller, individual sections of a fluffy rug in dark grey – which she soon realised was a mistake.

Sharing a snap of the transformation on DIY On A Budget Official, Katrina wrote: ”Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself and share a photo that I took, we have spent hours doing our stairs, but I don’t like it.

”Could I get some opinions please on what you think ?

Unfortunately for Katrina, she wasn’t the only one who wasn’t a fan of the makeover, as dozens flocked to comments to share their verdict.

Whilst many appreciated the overall look and said it was ”great”, they noted that the mini carpets ruined the aesthetic, comparing them to ”bath mats”.

One member of the group said: ”I think the carpet looks like a rug that should be in a bathroom.

”I agree that it should be a short pile carpet. Apart from that small detail, I think it looks amazing. Great job!!!”

Someone else agreed, joking: ”Something less fluffy.

”The idea is great but you want low pile and less dead sheep.”

Another advised: ”Definitely change the rugs, I scrolled quickly and thought they were grey cats laying on the stairs.”

It wasn’t just the appearance that seemed to bother the majority – one person, for example, reckoned the bath mat-inspired look could also lead to some injuries.

”Looks a little bit dangerous to be honest.”

”Too fluffy love. But you’re ok. Just when you’ve the time money change fluff,” another person chimed in.

Transform your dull staircase with a £4 Amazon buy

On the lookout for affordable ways to give your old staircase a new look?

One homeowner recently shared how she transformed her staircase to light up as she walks up or down the steps – and people are loving the results.

Lucy Hall, from Our Hanbury Hideaway, posted a clip demonstrating how she installed the bargain lights in minutes with absolutely no faff.

In a clip on her @our_hanbury_hideaway page, she wrote: “Budget mood lighting.

“It’s totally changed our stairway and super quick and easy.”

The cash-smart woman showed how she unboxed each of the lights and attached a magnet to the back – this easy step enables her to instantly remove the light from the side of each step so she could charge them up when needed.

“These ones are rechargeable by a cable.

“They last quite a long time depending how often they are used.”

Lucy shared the exact £1.99 product she used for the glow-up, and where to buy it from the TikTok shop on her video.
