Cristian Romero gets ready for Copa America with Argentina

Romero is coming off his best year in a Tottenham shirt, bouncing back from an inconsistent 2022-23 campaign to deliver solid and composed displays at the back for the Lilywhites last season.

The 26-year-old appears to have matured and grown with the additional leadership responsibility handed to him by Ange Postecoglou and his partnership at the back with Micky van de Ven has all the makings of a world-class pairing that could dominate for many years to come.

Romero will hope to take his club form into the international scene as Argentina prepare for their defence of the Copa America title.

In the Albiceleste’s 1-0 win over Ecuador in a friendly earlier this week, the Spurs man showed that he has more strings to his bow, showing tremendous skill on the ball and vision to set up Angel Di Maria’s goal in his side’s 1-0 win.

Cristian Romero tipped for a Man City move in the future

On the back of Romero’s display in the friendly, Vazquez praised the former Atalanta man to high heavens and admitted that he would like to see him at City.

The pundit told La Oral Deportiva (as relayed by El Grafico) about the centre-back: “He is the best number 2 in the history of Argentine football. We are in the presence of someone who can come out playing, who can burst it, who has presence and who if he has to hit, he hits you.

“At his age, he is a kid who gives you confidence when the ball comes to him. I would like to see him at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

“We found a central duo for the next ten years. Both (Lisandro) Martínez and Cuti have oriented controls that allow them to reduce the time when giving a pass.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Romero is one of the best centre-backs in the world and it is not surprising to hear these kinds of shouts from Argentina.

However, the reality is that Tottenham are not going to entertain offers for the 26-year-old and the defender appears fully committed to Postecoglou’s project.
