On Tuesday, the Phillies placed J.T. Realmuto on the 10-day injured list with right knee pain. Taking Realmuto’s spot on the Phillies’ roster is Rafael Marchán, who was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Per the Phillies, Realmuto is set to undergo right knee meniscectomy surgery on Wednesday in Philadelphia. The timetable for his recovery is currently unknown.

Realmuto’s official placement on the injured list comes after he missed three games in a row in May with what was described as right knee soreness. Since missing those three games, Realmuto had been “tolerating” the injury, according to manager Rob Thomson, and hadn’t been playing quite as regularly as he has in the past as the Phillies attempted to help their catcher manage his knee issue.

In Sunday’s loss to the New York Mets in London, in a rather odd moment, Realmuto, a good baserunner, was replaced by pinch-runner Garrett Stubbs in the bottom of the ninth inning. That move now doesn’t seem as odd.

Before being placed on the injured list, Realmuto was hitting .261/.309/.411 on the year and recently set the all-time hitting streak record for a catcher in Phillies history with 17 games. It was also a career-high for the three-time All-Star. Realmuto had cooled off recently, though, posting .618 OPS over his last 15 games.
