Royals call up Drew Waters, Nick Pratto

Hunter Renfroe lands on the Injured List

The Royals announced they have called up outfielder Drew Waters and first baseman Nick Pratto to the roster, with Hunter Renfroe placed on the Injured List with a fractured toe. Adam Frazier was placed on bereavement leave.

Waters played in 98 games for the Royals last year, hitting .228/.300/.377. He was a candidate to make the Opening Day roster, but was sent to Omaha where the switch-hitter batted .277/.351/.484 with 7 home runs and 9 steals in 50 games with a 26.6 percent strikeout rate. Waters was off to a great start in June, hitting .389 with two home runs in five games.

Pratto has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Royals, hitting .216/.295/.364 in 144 games. He had a terrific spring training with the Royals, but the former first-round pick did not make the club and hit .234/.321/.385 with 7 home runs and 9 steals in 53 games for Omaha with a 28.6 percent strikeout rate.

Renfroe fractured his left big toe after he fouled two pitches off his foot last night. After a slow start, he had really come on in the last month batting .302/.37/.556 with three home runs in 20 games since May 11. The Royals do not have a timetable yet on how long he will be out.

Frazier was also on a tear, hitting .304/.361/.482 in 21 games since May 8.
