PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Authorities have estimated the level of damage allegedly caused by a man accused of shooting at several Portland properties, and the final bill amounts to more than $500,000.

Chase Grijalva, 28, was taken into custody Monday afternoon on gun and vandalism charges. By Tuesday, officials said they had found evidence that Grijalva had also destroyed a dozen traffic control cameras across the city.

On Monday, officers responded to a shooting in the area of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Oregon Street around 1:15 p.m.

“When officers arrived, they determined a man driving a dark-colored sedan stopped his vehicle and fired shots at city-owned property before driving away,” police said. “A short time later, similar shootings were reported along Southeast Stark Street at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast 148th Avenue.”

Officers said they had to use physical force to take Grijalva into custody, claiming he exited the vehicle in a “very non-compliant, agitated state and he kept reaching for his waistband.” He was injured during the arrest along with one Portland police officer.

Grijalva now faces 17 counts of first-degree criminal, 17 counts of unlawfully using a weapon, and resisting arrest.

Anyone with additional information on this case is asked to contact Portland police.
