Man who allegedly drove through construction zone on I-84 in Southington charged with DUI
A Rhode Island man was arrested Monday and accused of drunkenly driving through an active construction zone on Interstate 84 in Southington.
Andrew Bravo, 25, of Providence faces charges of operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs in a construction zone, reckless driving in a construction zone, second-degree reckless endangerment and failure to obey the signal of an officer, according to Connecticut State Police.
The charges stem from an incident Monday around midnight when a trooper with Troop H was assigned to a construction detail on I-84 West in the area of Exit 30. The trooper was assisting with lane closures when a driver who was later identified as Bravo was allegedly spotted driving in the lanes that had already been closed in a Honda Pilot, according to state police.
The Honda was also allegedly seen driving around crash trucks and the trooper’s cruiser, both of which were in place to protect road crews who were working, state police said.
The trooper initiated a motor vehicle stop and had to cycle through multiple siren tones before Bravo stopped in a construction pattern where crews were working, state police said.
State police allege that Bravo showed signs of possible impairment before allegedly admitting he had consumed alcoholic beverages before driving. He also reportedly failed multiple field sobriety tests, according to state police.
Bravo was taken to Troop H in Hartford and later released on $500 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned in New Britain Superior Court on July 12.
The Honda he was driving was towed.
