Mets reinstate C Francisco Alvarez from injured list

The New York Mets reinstated Francisco Alvarez from the injured list Tuesday and designated fellow catcher Tomas Nido for assignment.

Alvarez, 22, has been out since April 19 with a thumb injury. In 16 games to start the season, he was batting .236 with one home run and eight RBIs.

In 144 games over three seasons with the Mets, he is a career .212 hitter with 27 home runs
