Shooting incident in Jay under investigation

JAY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police are investigating a shooting incident, where suspects shot at a vehicle in the town of Jay, according to authorities. No arrests have been made at this time.

According to State Police, on Monday, around 5:23 p.m., troopers received reports of two suspicious men walking around, carrying long guns. Around 6:29 p.m., troopers responded to the Town of Jay for reports of suspects shooting at a car.

Police say the suspects fled into a nearby wooded area. Police set a perimeter around the area and sent drones, K9s, SORT, and Tri-County SRT to search the area.

Police say this incident is not considered an active shooter situation, and that the suspects could have weapons. Do not approach them. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact New York State Police at (518) 873-2750.
