Evergy shares tips to save you cash this summer

TOPEKA (KSNT) - With temperatures heating up this week, Evergy is offering ways to not only save your energy but also your dollars.
Evergy put out a press release Tuesday, June 11 sharing some tips to homeowners to help them save cash this summer. Check out the list below to learn how you can start saving:
- Air conditioner adjustments.
- Increasing your AC by three to five degrees can affect your energy usage.
- Maintain your HVAC filters.
- Change filters every three months.
- Have your unit serviced to ensure it is working efficiently.
- Install a smart thermostat.
- This will automatically adjust temperatures.
- Close your blinds, shades, or curtains.
- Block out sunlight.
- About 25% of energy is lost through windows.
- Turn ceiling fans counterclockwise.
- Push cool air down.
- Turn fans off when not in the room.
- Keep exterior doors closed.
- Add weatherstripping inside door frames.
- Attach a door seal to the bottom of the door.
- Place a draft stopper to block gaps.
- Cook with small appliances.
- Limit oven usage.
- Cook with energy efficient appliances.
- Lower your water heater temperature.
- Water heating energy bills can be impacted by 10% if the temperature is lowered.
- Lower it from 140 degrees to 120 degrees.
