Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Summer Youth Academy kickoffs
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office kicked off its 2024 Summer Youth Academy yesterday.
The sheriff's office posted to social media that throughout the week campers will learn from Sheriff Hill and see presentations from the Soldier Township Fire Department, Prevention and Resiliency Services, FBI, Kansas CPR and the Topeka Zoo.
“The purpose is to build life skills, instill confidence and help develop positive self-esteem,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a press release back in March. “The curriculum will include a wide variety of activities that will incorporate teamwork, physical fitness and general law enforcement information.”
The academy is hosted at Seaman High School from 8 a.m. to noon each day for pre-registered 6th, 7th and 8th grade campers to learn more about law enforcement.
