French snap elections: Renaissance MPs want to 'form a united front'

"The most important thing to take away from the discussions we are having at the moment is this desire to stand together," said Eléonore Caroit, of the majority party Renaissance, after attending a meeting of outgoing members of the presidential majority who are preparing to "launch another local campaign". Meanwhile opposition parties on the left and the right were scrambling to form alliances for the upcoming snap elections called by President Emmanuel Macron after his party suffered a crushing defeat by the far right at the European vote on Sunday.
