Morning Briefing: Rintaro Sasaki to Make United States Debut Today
Good morning, Mets fans!
Japanese standout Rintaro Sasaki is set to make his US debut today, playing first base for the Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League. Sasaki, who hit a record-setting 140 homers in his high school career in Japan, is a rising freshman at Stanford University. Sasaki spent the spring taking classes and working out at Stanford, though he was ineligible to play.

The Mets begin a six-game homestand this evening with the first of three games against the Marlins. Tylor Megill (1-2, 3.00 ERA) will take the hill against left-hander Jesús Luzardo (2-5, 5.30 ERA). Megill battled through five innings to earn his first win of the year in his last outing. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
Luis Torrens‘ game-ending double play on Sunday was named MLB’s Chevrolet Electric Play of the Week. It was the first time in AL/NL history that a game ended on a 2-3 double play.
