Woman’s $10 Amazon buy is ‘the only product that helped her hair grow’ – as she breaks down her twice-a-week routine
A BEAUTY guru has revealed the haircare product that finally stimulated growth after being stuck at the same length.
She said the affordable oil transforms tresses in just 10 minutes.
She took to Reddit’s Black Hair forum to gush about Mielle Organics’ Rosemary Mint hair oil.
“This oil is the only product that helped my hair grow,” she wrote under the handle LiHereforawhile.
“I’ve been using it for 2 months now, I have lots of baby hairs (new growth) and my hair grew a lot more faster.”
She said the oil is “very strong” and shouldn’t be left on locks for more than 10 minutes before rinsing out.
Despite following the instructions on the bottle, an unexpected reaction may occur.
“Hair loss is very normal when you start using Mielle rosemary oil because it’s basically getting rid of damaged/weak hair that will fall out either way in the future,” she said.
“So my advice is to brush your hair, section it into two parts and then start applying the oil all over your scalp.
“Make sure not to overdo it but at the same time make sure you’re oiling every part.
“Once you’re done oiling your hair, massage your scalp gently for 5 minutes then braid your hair (or any other protective hairstyle) and protect it with a disposable shower cap.”
The Redditor revealed she applies coconut oil to the mids and ends of her hair because it’s dry.
However, an alternative oil may be better suited for other people’s needs.
“Wait for 10 minutes and then gently shampoo twice with cool water (never shampoo your mids and ends),” she said.
“Add conditioner (leave it for at least 2 minutes) or even a hair mask (if you want to) on your mids and ends and you’re done.”
She recommended using the oil consistently to achieve hair growth and said she uses it twice weekly.
“Lastly, once your scalp gets used to the oil so let’s say after 3 weeks you can start adding 5 extra minutes,” she said.
“So 10 then 15, 20, and so on, but I personally don’t suggest more than 2 hours.”
Many people up-voted the post which was shared in response to another user considering the oil.
How does scalp massage promote hair growth?
A recent study from the Dermatology and Therapy Journal found that 69% of 340 participants self-reported an improvement in their hair loss after having scalp massages.
Another study, published in 2016, found that “scalp massage resulted in increased hair thickness 24 weeks after initiation of massage.”
So how does it work? A boost in blood circulation in the area can make a positive difference.
“When it comes to the scalp, massage can help to stimulate blood circulation and stretch the hair follicles to help promote growth,” Arran Isherwood, a Senior Trichologist Specialist at FUE Clinics, told The U.S. Sun.
Haircare expert Gaia Tonanzi agrees.
“There is some evidence that massaging your scalp can help increase blood flow, which ultimately supports healthy hair growth,” she told The U.S. Sun.
Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil is a bestseller on Amazon.
According to the manufacturer, the $10 product is suitable for all hair types and has been formulated to strengthen and lengthen.
One customer described it as a “game-changer,” while another said they “love” the smell of the oil.
The thousands of glowing reviews come after a 2023 study into using 1% rosemary essential oil for hair growth.
Findings published by the National Library of Medicine suggest the oil improves length better than minoxidil.
Mice used in the study also had an overall improvement in the appearance of their hair.
