Human Rights Watch: Doha meeting an opportunity to support women

0

Human Rights Watch, referencing the 1,000 days that girls in Afghanistan have been deprived of education, stated that the Doha meeting is an opportunity to support women.

The human rights organization wrote in a report released today, Tuesday, June 11, that the third Doha meeting is an opportunity to support women and girls in Afghanistan.

The report emphasizes that this opportunity should involve concerted support from the international community for women and girls in Afghanistan and avoid any actions that trivialize the critical situation of women.

Human Rights Watch has criticized the invitation of the Taliban officials to the third Doha meeting and added that the Taliban is accountable for the crisis situation experienced by women and girls in Afghanistan.

The third Doha meeting, hosted by the United Nations in Qatar, is scheduled for June 30th and July 1st.

This comes amid a dire humanitarian crisis resulting from the recent Taliban takeover, which has led to increased isolation and challenges in accessing essential services and aid.

The Taliban’s control has also triggered a mass migration of people due to insecurity, lack of job opportunities, and economic strain, further exacerbating the country’s challenges.

Many Afghan women and girls continue to face significant barriers to education and employment, with their rights and freedoms increasingly restricted under the Taliban regime, highlighting the urgent need for international support and intervention.
