A boat carrying migrants sank off Yemen's coast, with 49 dead and 140 missing. As many as 260 Somalis and Ethiopians attempted the journey across the Gulf of Aden. Around 70 have been rescued so far, including 31 women and six children. Yemen is a key route for migrants from East Africa despite the civil war, with over 90,000 arrivals in 2023 and 1,860 deaths along the route prompting calls for urgent action from the International Organization for Migration.
