'No Labels' election crime complaint sent to Kansas AG
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Kansas Secretary of State's Office has sent an election crime complaint to the Kansas Attorney General's Office, accusing a GOP operative of misrepresenting himself as Chair of third-party group 'No Labels.'
A spokeswoman confirmed in an email to Nexstar's Kansas Capitol Bureau on Monday.
"This morning, we referred this to the Attorney General’s office for further review," said Communications Director, Whitney Tempel.
The Secretary of State's Office invalidated nominations handed in by GOP strategist, Kris Van Meteren, last week. State election officials claim that the rightful chair of the party is Glenda Reynolds, who is reportedly in hospice.
A letter sent to the Secretary of State's Office shows that Reynolds, along with three other members, created the party which was officially recognized in January.
Van Meteren told Nexstar's Kansas Capitol Bureau that he took the necessary steps to take over as party chair – going as far as filing business records and holding a nominating convention on his behalf.
However, national party officials for 'No Labels' and the Secretary of State's Office argue that Van Meteren has fraudulently passed himself off as a party official.
