Passenger dies, suspected impaired driver seriously injured after crashing into telephone pole

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A one-car crash on Friday afternoon left one woman dead and one man seriously injured, according to Oregon State Police.

Police responded to the crash off Hwy 2214 near milepost 16 in Clackamas County around 2:45 p.m. They say Portland man Jose Tamayo, 51, was driving a Chevy 1500 pickup that left the road and struck a telephone pole on the north side of the highway.

The passenger, Portland woman Rosa Perez, 49, was found dead at the scene, while Tamayo was taken to an area hospital, police said.

According to OSP, the crash investigation is ongoing, but impairment is the suspected cause of the crash.
