Homicide at Choctaw Casino under investigation by OSBI
DURANT, Okla. (KFDX/KJTL) — Officials with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations are looking into an altercation on Sunday night that led to the death of a 51-year-old man.
OSBI officials said in a Facebook post on Monday, June 10, 2024, that they were requested by the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police and the Bryan County District Attorney's Office to assist with a homicide on June 9.
According to OSBI officials, at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, officers responded to an altercation at the Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant, Oklahoma.
OSBI officials said when they arrived on the scene, they discovered Phillip Wingfield, 51, who had suffered significant injuries. They said life-saving measures were performed by medical personnel, but unfortunately, Wingfield passed away.
Authorities said that based on information and evidence gathered by OSBI special agents, Antonio Anthony Latham, 20, of Gunter, was booked into the Bryan County Jail on June 9, 2024, and charged with first-degree murder.
According to OSBI officials, the victim was transported to the Office of the Oklahoma Chief Medical Examiner to determine a cause and manner of death. They said the investigation into Wingfield's death is ongoing.
