DECORATING a house is stressful business, so when this young family moved into their council house they knew they had a big job on their hands.

23-year-old mum George had a complete blank canvas to work with in the new pad, which she lives in with her partner, 24, and their three-year-old son.

A fresh lick of paid made a huge difference[/caption]

On a mission to turn the house into a home, George knew she wanted to create something bright and colourful in the hallway.

First she thought a dark purple shade would do the trick, but after the paint started peeling she decided to go for a stunning pastel pink colour instead.

“We decided to go for a Dulux paint this time,” George explained, since the brand she used for the purple was a total fail.

“I have had a lot of people tell me that Dulux is worth the money that you pay,” she added.

The inspiration for the hallway and stairs was something with lots of art, colours and decorations – which George managed to achieve with some great bargain buys.

The dull drown front door also got a fresh lick of paint, and the results instantly made the hallway look bigger.

The mum said she’s not planning on leaving it white though, and is instead considering a turquoise shade for the outside and purple for the inside.

Rather than forking out for frames for all the artwork, George said she’s managed to bag some from local charity shops instead, saving a bit of cash in the process.

She’s even taking her thriftiness one step further and making the prints herself, with the help of her son and partner, to save even more money.

After showing off her pad other interior fans were amazed by how good it looks already.

One said: “You’re lucky, I got no flooring in my council property with two kids, must depend on which council I suppose.”

“It looks so much brighter now, I like it,” another commented.

And a third wrote: “It’s looking so good I liked the purple and the pink, I think turquoise for the door.”

Meanwhile, someone else warned that George should double check with her council before painting the outside of the door.

They said: “You can’t paint a council house door on the outside without permission.

“I was charged £600 for doing this and they came and repainted it back to it’s normal state, I was raging.”
