Alasdair Gold questions whether Jose Mourinho could look to sign Spurs defender

Alasdair Gold has speculated over the possibility of whether Jose Mourinho will attempt to take Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon to Fenerbahce this summer.

Joe Rodon spent last season on loan at Leeds United

It is clear that Rodon’s time at Tottenham is now up but it remains to be seen just where the centre-back ends up this summer.

The Welsh international’s preference might have been to make a permanent move to Leeds United but the Championship club’s hopes of signing the defender have received a massive blow after their failure to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Daily Mail reported two weeks ago that Daniel Farke’s side would need to sell some players before they can buy this summer, with the club needing to offset losses of over £100m.

As a result, the publication hinted that a deal to sign Rodon on a permanent deal from Tottenham is unlikely to materialise this summer, with the report adding that the player is attracting interest from the Premier League.

Back in March, TEAMtalk had also reported that multiple top-flight sides are eyeing the 26-year-old, who is said to be valued at between £12m to £15m by Spurs.

Jose Mourinho worked with Joe Rodon at Tottenham

Gold believes that Jose Mourinho could try to take Rodon to Istanbul this summer, revealing that the Portuguese coach was always a fan of the centre-back.

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “I wonder, Jose quite liked Joe Rodon, I wonder if Jose would want to take Joe Rodon to Fenerbahce where he would do very very well.”

I am not sure Rodon would entertain a move to Turkey this summer if he receives a couple of Premier League offers, which appears inevitable on the back of his impressive loan spell at Elland Road.

Rodon will believe that he can do a job at a lower Premier League team or head back to Leeds this summer if a deal can be reached.

The Swansea-born defender is clearly not part of Ange Postecoglou’s first-team squad at Tottenham and needs to leave to continue the momentum he built at Leeds last season.
