Israeli war cabinet minister Benny Gantz quits Netanyahu’s government
Benny Gantz, a senior member of Israel’s war cabinet, has resigned due to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plans regarding the Gaza war.
Gantz announced his resignation during a press conference on Sunday, June 9, and urged Netanyahu to hold early general elections as soon as possible.
Following Gantz’s resignation, the Israeli Prime Minister called for his return to his position.
Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated, “Benny, now is not the time to leave the battlefield; now is the time for unity and solidarity in the war.”
Arab media reported that Gantz’s resignation is the first major blow to Israel’s eight-month war in Gaza.
Benny Gantz described his decision to leave the cabinet as painful, adding that Netanyahu’s decisions prevented them from achieving real victory.
Last month, this member of Israel’s war cabinet gave Netanyahu a deadline of June 8 to clarify how Israel would achieve its six “strategic goals,” including ending Hamas’s rule in Gaza and establishing a multinational civilian administration for the region.
