The 26-year-old “Good Luck, Babe!” singer has become a huge fan-favorite this year and that has led to many opportunities, including opening for Olivia Rodrigo, leading her own headlining tour and playing major music festivals.
During her performance on Sunday (June 9) at The Governors Ball in NYC, Chappell revealed she turned down performing at the White House and why.

“In response to the White House, who asked me to perform for Pride,” she said during her set, while dressed like the Statue of Liberty. “We want liberty, justice and freedom for all. When you do that, that’s when I’ll come.”
A rep for the musician confirmed to Variety that the White House did reach out to her management team and they were declined.
