Chaos has engulfed a neighbourhood in Leeds after a man was spotted with a ‘handgun’, it has been reported.

There is currently a ‘stand-off’ with armed police, armoured vehicles and a bomb squad in Stanningley.

Negotiations are now ongoing between West Yorkshire Police and a man inside a home in the Half Mile Green area.

An alarm was raised just after 12.36pm, with dozens of officers from multiple units descending to the housing unit.

Dozens of police officers were deployed to the housing estate this afternoon

Footage from the housing estate shows the road has been closed off, while locals are being turned away from the scene.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed they had responded to a domestic incident, five miles from Leeds city centre.

A man was seen with what appeared to be a handgun, which forced the officers to withdraw from the building.

A spokesperson for the police confirmed an operation is currently ongoing there.

They added: ‘At12.36pm today, officers were called to a domestic-related incident at the property but withdrew on seeing a male at the address in possession of what appeared to be a handgun.

‘A cordon is currently in place and various emergency service resources, including police negotiators, are at the scene working to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

‘The man is the only person in the address and there is no risk to the wider community.’
