Report: Spurs are ready to break their transfer record to land Premier League star

TEAMtalk have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are willing to spend a club-record transfer fee to land Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace this summer.

The report says that Tottenham are keen to hand Ange Postecolgou three or four signings this summer ahead of his second season in charge.

The Spurs head coach is said wants a player who can add an ‘x-factor’ to the side and is said to have identified Eze as that player.

It is claimed that the Lilywhites are now ‘edging towards’ the signing of the 25-year-old after learning how much his release clause is worth.

TEAMtalk backs up what we have heard from other sources by stating that Spurs would have to pay £68m plus add-ons to activate the attacking midfielder’s clause.

That would represent a club-record fee, overtaking the amount they paid to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon, but it is suggeste that the fee would not be a stumbling block for the deal.

The publication adds that Eze is also on the radars of Manchester City and Liverpool but the player is said to prefer a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Eze was selected ahead of James Maddison for England’s Euro 2024 squad for the tournament in Germany which begins later this month.

Eze is the kind of signing that would signal intent to the rest of the Premier League and show that Tottenham are serious about their ambitions of competing with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal next term.

James Maddison needs competition within the Spurs squad, we saw that while he was sidelined through injury we had nobody else capable of influencing the game in the final third, something which Eze has proven he can do.
