German men inch past India in nail-biter as Australia secure double victory over GB
Germany’s men got the better of India for the first time in seven years after an enthralling end-to-end contest in London on Saturday. The Germans held on through a fierce final few minutes for the win as India threw everything at them.
The German women, meanwhile, came from behind to also beat India while there was double joy for Australia against hosts Great Britain, with both the men’s and women’s teams prevailing.

London: The Indian Women’s Hockey Team suffered a 2-4 loss against Germany despite putting up a solid show in a thrilling encounter. Sunelita Toppo (9’) and Deepika (15’) scored goals for India, while Viktoria Huse (23’, 32’), Stine Kurz (51’), and Jule Bleuel (55’) emerged as goal-scorers for Germany.

Germany muscled out India’s spirited challenge 4-2 in a women’s FIH Pro League match at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London on Saturday. The German ladies fought back from a 0-2 first-quarter deficit to sustain a good run of results despite not playing at their best in the current season. The result took Germany, who beat India 3-1 last week, to 24 points from nine matches, retaining a mathematical chance of surpassing high-flyers The Netherlands.
