'Don't double down on Jim Crow, bro': Byron Donalds buried on MSNBC after interview flop

MSNBC host Michael Steele dropped the hammer on Rep. Byron Donalds on Sunday morning after sharing a clip on "The Weekend" of the Florida Republican flying into a rage with MSNBC's Rev. Al Sharpton on Saturday when he was called out on his comments on Jim Crow laws.

Donalds, a possible Donald Trump vice presidential pick, has been on his heels all week after he implied the Jim Crow segregation laws were a boon for Black families.

After Sharpton lectured Donald on the impact of the racist laws -- – while also pointing out the lawmaker's wife is white and they could not have been married under Jim Crow — Donalds fired back, "That is really cute. Right now you are lying about what I said," before insulting Sharpton further.

After watching the clip, Steele – the former RNC head — had some advice for the embattled GOP lawmaker.

"You don't double down on Jim Crow, bro," he began. "You just don't. You can't convince Black people or anybody else that we were better off and a segregated society where your behind wouldn't have even been allowed in Congress and certainly would have had questions about who you socialize with."

"So, look, Black folks, I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat, you have to keep it real about what we went through, what our parents and grandparents went through," he continued. "I grew up in Washington D.C., which was still segregated. My mama couldn't take me to certain parks in D.C. because of Jim Crow. and yet, I sit where I sit now despite that."

"I'm not going to forget that though and I'm not going to try to romanticize it and pretend that somehow my mama and I were better off when she couldn't take me to that park," he continued. "So just stop it. and especially Black Republicans: stop this crap, let's be honest about it."
