White Sox Minor League Update: June 8, 2024

Bryan Ramos makes a great play here, similar to another smooth defensive play tonight — along with his first Triple-A bomb! | Birmingham Barons

Noah Schultz and Mason Adams lead the Barons to another win

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 7, Charlotte Knights 2 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
Chad Kuhl was the Knights starter Saturday, and although he gave up four runs (three earned), he received zero run support from his teammates. Charlotte and Jacksonville both had 11 hits, but the Knights went 1-for-14 with RISP, and left 10 on base. To make it even worse, Charlotte had five doubles and somehow still weren’t able to score more than two runs.

Bryan Ramos had a great game, however, going 2-for-5 including one of the two RBIs, stemming from his first Triple-A home run! This cut the lead to 4-1, Jumbo Shrimp:

Kuhl would get stuck with the loss, but Joe Barlow also struggled on the mound. He gave up three runs on three hits in the seventh, along with two walks and a strikeout. Fraser Ellard and Adisyn Coffey gave up just one hit between the two of them, but by then the damage was done and the offense wasn’t able to catch up.

Birmingham Barons 6, Tennessee Smokies 3 (Gameday box)
Noah Schultz and Mason Adams split the workload on the mound, and although Mason Adams ended up with the win for piggybacking for the final five innings, both had efficient performances.

Schultz started it off with a three-hit, four-inning outing, giving up one run while walking one and striking out two. Adams gave up nine hits, but was able to strike out five and gave up just two runs. He maintains an impressive 2.25 ERA in his first two June starts.

The game was tied at one for the first four innings, but the Barons offense went on a roll in the fifth, rallying together four runs on two singles from Edgar Quero and Tim Elko, and a Brooks Baldwin double (who had already homered in the first).

Edgar Quero blasted a solo shot in the top of the seventh and increased the Barons lead to 6-2.

The Smokies would score one more run, but the Barons held on to get the win, 6-3.

Rome Emperors 10, Winston-Salem Dash 6 (Gameday box)
The Emperors got off to a hot start off Dash starter Juan Carela, scoring four runs in the first three innings — although only three of those were earned, with the fourth stemming from a passed ball in the second. Carela otherwise gave up six hits, three walks, and stuck out three in his four innings.

The Dash were able to get all four runs back in the top of the fourth, tying the game and taking some of the momentum back. The four-run rally stemmed from a Loidel Chapelli sac fly, a Jordan Sprinkle RBI single, and a two-run double from Eddie Park. Winston-Salem had more offensive opportunities, and out-hit the Emperors by two, but unfortunately only scored two in the ninth — not enough to scrape away at a six-run lead.

The rest of the bullpen wasn’t exactly spectacular, and only Johnny Ray was able to get out of an inning without giving up a run. Ernesto Jacquez would get the loss as Rome scored a run back in the fifth, but Ben Beutel and Frander Veras gave up five runs between the two of them, and the Emperors would win, 10-6.

Fredericksburg Nationals 6, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 5 (Gameday box)
The Cannon Ballers came close to winning again, rallying in the top of the eighth to try to come back, but ultimately fell just short, losing to the Nationals, 6-5.

Seth Keener took the first 4 1⁄3 innings, giving up three runs on six hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. The Nationals scored one off of Keener in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, which would end up tagging him with the loss. Frankeli Arias came in to relieve Keener, and gave up a three-run bomb in the bottom of the sixth to put Fredericksburg up, 6-2.

George Wolkow is starting to settle in nicely after being called up to the Ballers last week, and he did his best to keep them in the game, driving a 457-foot, three-run shot in the eighth. WOOF, 457 feet!

Sadly, the offense would end there, and Kanny would take the 6-5 loss.

ACL White Sox 3, ACL Reds 2 (Gameday box)
Jordany Chirinos had the start for the ACL Sox, and he threw a five-inning gem, not giving up a hit or any walks, and striking out four. The story was not the same for the ACL Reds, as the Sox jumped on their starter early on in the game, scoring two in the first on an Angelo Hernández RBI-double, and Darío Borrero driving in another on sac fly.

Adrian Gil drove in the third ACL Sox run in the third on another sac fly to put the rookie South Siders up, 3-2. The Reds attempted to come back later in the game in the sixth, however, even outhitting the Sox, 8-7, but they fell one short and the ACL Sox squad got the W.
