Neville shocked by Wayne Rooney statement that shows what Spurs are missing

Gary Neville was left surprised when Wayne Rooney labelled Harry Kane as ‘England’s greatest ever player’.

Kane has been one of the best centre-forwards in world football (if not the best) for many years and has continued banging in the goals at a prolific rate for club and country for a decade now.

The 30-year-old is now Tottenham and England’s all-time record goalscorer and only Alan Shearer has more goals than him in the history of the Premier League.

Hardly anyone is surprised by how well Kane has done since his move to Bayern Munich last summer, with the former Spurs man winning the European Golden Boot after netting 44 goals across all competitions.

England will once again be reliant on their captain to produce the goods in front of goal this summer if they are to go all the way in the Euros and by the time the striker hangs up his goods, he could quite easily have more than a century of goals to his name for his country.

When asked about Kane, Rooney has now said on The Overlap: “I think he is incredible. I think the goals he has scored. The assists he has added over the last few years as well. For me, I would say he is England’s greatest-ever player.

Neville replied: “That’s some statement from you”, before Rooney added: “I believe that. You were talking about Jude before with his work rate, with Harry there is never an issue.

“He is the ultimate professional. He never misses a game. And that’s a common theme you would see with these players like Kane, Bellingham, Foden. I would put money on it, they would never miss training sessions or a game.”

The numbers and the eye test certainly suggest that Kane is miles ahead of any other player who has donned the England shirt.

However, some fans will judge individual players based on team honours and might thus never concede that the former Tottenham man is the best unless he leads the Three Lions to a World Cup or Euros.
