Mariners Game #60 Preview: 6/1/24, LAA at SEA
Pride Night at the ballpark as the Mariners take on the Angels
The Mariners are tantalizingly close to finishing this 17-game stretch with no off-days, with just today and tomorrow’s game standing in the way before a sweet sweet off day before beginning another 13-game stretch. This is what they mean when they say baseball is a grind. Today, though, they’ll have to get past Reid Detmers and his nasty curveball, a pitch that flummoxed the hitters during the Astros series against Justin Verlander and Spencer Arrighetti.
Lineups:
With a lefty on the mound for Anaheim, the Mariners are deploying their lefty lineup, with a couple of tweaks. Lefty J.P. Crawford takes the leadoff spot, with Dylan Moore behind him. Moore will also be at third today, as Josh Rojas sits, and Ryan Bliss gets the start at second. Lefty Luke Raley gets the nod over switch-hitter Jonatan Clase.

Today in Mariners history:
- 1991: The Mariners turn the sixth triple play in their history. Texas’ Brian Downing grounded to 3B Edgar Martinez, who stepped on third to force Mario Diaz, then threw to 2B Harold Reynolds to force Gary Pettis. Reynolds relayed to Pete O’Brien to get Downing (5-4-3).
- 1999: Alex Rodriguez swipes career #100 stolen base vs. Baltimore.
- 2014: Roenis Elías fired a 3-hit shutout vs. the Detroit Tigers in a 4-0 win at T-Mobile Park. Elías became the first Mariners rookie pitcher to throw a shutout since Freddy Garcia on Aug. 24, 1999.
- 2018: Mitch Haniger hits his first career walk-off hit, a 13th-inning home run to put the Mariners past the Rays, 4-3. He’d have another just two and a half weeks later.
